Canned biscuit dough is such an unsung hero. Have you ever passed by the aisle with all the dough and thought that canned biscuits could make donuts? Yes, you heard me right. Donuts! And not just donuts that taste like biscuits. They really melt in your mouth, and you can make so many for much cheaper than a run to the donut shop. We all know that with rising prices at bakeries and shops, it’s getting harder and harder to buy treats for your family.

Bakery donuts can get very expensive. Many shops are charging extra for assortments, so you might walk out with a dozen for up to twenty dollars! For much less at a store like Walmart, you can make delicious donuts right at home for a fraction of the cost. Is there anything sweeter than huge, tasty savings?

What you will need for this recipe is:

  1. One can of refrigerated biscuit dough, cooking spray, and whatever toppings you want to use. A regular glaze or a simple cinnamon sugar topping is a great choice if you are new to air frying canned biscuits. You don’t have to stop at one can of dough; you can always do two or more!

Instructions:

1. Preheat or place your air fryer to 375°F. Separate the biscuits and cut holes into the center of each one to maintain a donut shape. Use the holes as donut holes! They’re delicious and a way to get something extra out of the donuts. Lightly spray the basket with your cooking spray of choice. Any cooking spray works*. If you prefer coconut oil spray or avocado oil spray, these work perfectly in this recipe, but make sure that it’s a light spray. Excessive spray may cause the dough to become overly crisp.

*Make sure if you use olive oil, it is not extra-virgin, as that will leave a taste. You don’t want your donuts to taste like they are from an Italian restaurant!

2. Place your donuts in the basket, lightly spray them, and flip them at the halfway point. You should air fry them until they are golden brown, but since air fryers vary, check them around 7-8 minutes. Flip them around the four-minute mark to ensure that they are cooked on all sides, but keep a close eye toward the end as cooking times vary . Before taking them out, make sure to pierce them with a small knife to make sure that they are fully cooked. Raw biscuit donuts are not appetizing.

3. Remove them from the basket and let them cool. They should still be warm before you glaze them, but not extremely hot.

***If you choose to make cinnamon sugar donuts, put butter (or margarine) on them while they are almost cool so that the butter does not melt into the donut. One way to coat your donuts is to put the butter into a medium-sized mixing bowl and toss the donuts, then put them in another bowl of cinnamon sugar. It’s less mess, too!
