Everyone who has been to New Orleans or has lived in the area has tried this delicious fried dough that has been a staple in New Orleans for well over one-hundred years. The place where they were popularized in the city, Cafe du Monde, has been a complete staple of New Orleans culture. The special treat is none other than a beignet, which is incredible. An absolute must try if you’re ever in New Orleans. And while the recipe you’ll be making isn’t an exact replica to the deliciousness of beignets, it is very close. It uses the air fryer instead of frying in hot oil, which means less mess and far less oil.
And all you need is a can of biscuit dough. Whichever you want, but the best for this recipe is definitely Grands. They have that right flake, that delicious buttery texture that makes this copycat air fryer recipe really sing and you’ll hear a second line in the distance.
So to start, all you’ll need is:
• One can of jumbo biscuit dough (e.g, Grands)
• An air fryer (but an oven is also good at 375° for 8-10 minutes OR until golden brown)
• Spray can of oil (or something like avocado or Parkay)
• 1/2 cup powdered sugar for dusting
Begin by prepping your dough by dividing each into quarters, as evenly as possible. This is where bigger biscuits will be better because the beignets will be smaller.

Next, preheat or set your air fryer to 375° F and put your beignets, working in batches, and spray with your oil. Cook for 6 minutes, flipping halfway. Because they are smaller, they will take less time to cook than if you didn’t cut them up. See note in recipe card for the times for the oven cooking.

And finally, enjoy your New Orleans style beignets! Dust with a generous helping of powdered sugar. It’s not a beignet if it doesn’t have a mountain of powdered sugar on it. But please put them on while the beignets are hot, the sugar will slide off if you don’t.
